Web Filtering & Safe Browsing

Fami Hero includes an advanced web protection system that allows parents to restrict access to inappropriate websites and ensure safe browsing on the child's device. This guide covers smart web filtering configuration, exceptions, keywords, and how to inspect blocked history logs.

🛡️ Smart Web Filtering Configuration

Parents can configure content safety policies directly from the Web Filter tab in the Parent App.

1. The Master Switch (Smart Filtering)

  • The Smart Web Filtering master switch enables or disables the entire filtering engine.
  • When active, Fami Hero monitors child browser tabs in real time and automatically applies safety blocks based on your rules.

2. Website Categories

Parents can toggle blocking rules for specific content categories:

  • Categories: Toggle protection for categories like Adult Content, Gambling, Violence, Social Media, and Games.
  • Domain Lookup: Tap any category to open a sheet showing the domains included in that filter category (e.g., viewing which specific gaming or social domains are blocked).

📝 Whitelists, Blacklists & Keywords

To tailor protection to your family's needs, Fami Hero supports granular exceptions and keyword blocks.

1. Whitelist (Always Allow)

  • Add specific domains (e.g., wikipedia.org, education.gov) that should always remain accessible, overriding category block rules.

2. Blacklist (Always Block)

  • Add specific domains (e.g., youtube.com, reddit.com) that you want to block permanently, regardless of active category settings.

3. Keywords Block

  • Enter specific terms or keywords. If the child attempts to visit any URL containing one of your keywords, the browser tab is immediately blocked.

🗃️ Blocked History Logs

Every time a child attempts to visit a restricted site, Fami Hero flags the attempt and registers it in the parent feed.

Inside the History Feed:

  • Domain Name: Shows the exact web address the child attempted to access.
  • Block Reason: Displays why the site was blocked (e.g., "Blocked by Adult Content Category" or "Blocked by custom Blacklist").
  • Timestamp: The date and time of the blocked attempt.

[!NOTE] Propagation Time: Changes to blocking status may take a few minutes to affect web tabs that the child already has open on their device.
