SOS Emergency Alerts
Fami Hero includes a dedicated SOS Panic Button that allows children to send an immediate distress alert to their parents in emergencies. This guide covers how the child triggers the SOS, the backend dispatch flow, and how the parent responds.
π¨ The SOS Panic Workflowβ
When a child activates the SOS, Fami Hero bypasses normal refresh rules to deliver immediate, high-priority notifications and live GPS tracking coordinates to the parent.
π² Step 1: Child Triggers SOSβ
To prevent accidental activation, the SOS button requires a deliberate hold:
- Open the Fami Hero Kids app. (If the phone is locked by a curfew or cap, the SOS button remains accessible on the locking overlay).
- Tap and hold the red SOS button for 5 seconds.
- A countdown timer will appear:
5... 4... 3... 2... 1... - Release the button to cancel. If held until the timer finishes, the device vibrates, and the SOS signal is fired.

π Step 2: Parent Receives Critical Alertβ
As soon as the SOS is fired:
- The backend dispatches a high-priority push notification to all paired parent devices.
- On Android/iOS, this notification is flagged as a Critical Alert, which bypasses the parent's system Do-Not-Disturb (Silent) settings and plays a loud, continuous alarm sound.
- The lock screen notification displays: "CRITICAL ALERT: Sarah has triggered an SOS! Tap to open location map."
πΊοΈ Step 3: Parent Response & Live Trackingβ
- The parent taps the push notification.
- The Fami Hero Parent App opens directly into the Live Emergency Tracking screen.
- The screen displays:
- A full-screen map centering on the child's exact position.
- A live location marker showing the child's real-time position (updates every 5 minutes in background, or instantly when pressing the Refresh button).

π Step 4: Resolving the SOS Alarmβ
- Child Side: Once the emergency is resolved or the signal is successfully sent, the child can tap the Close button on the SOS confirmation card to dismiss the popup alert and return to the main map screen.
- Parent Side: The parent reviews the child's location on the emergency map. Since the SOS is a one-time high-priority alert dispatcher, no manual deactivation is required on the parent's dashboard; the platform automatically returns to standard monitoring rules.
