Location Tracking & Safe Zones
Fami Hero helps parents monitor their child's physical safety using continuous, background GPS tracking and customizable safe-zone geofences. This guide covers how live tracking operates, how to read location history logs, and how to set up geofenced alerts.
π 1. Live GPS Location Trackingβ
With background location permission enabled on the child's device, parents can view the child's precise coordinates at any moment.
How to View Live Location:β
- Open the Fami Hero Parent App and select your child's profile.
- Tap the Location tab.
- The app loads an interactive map showing:

π 3. Configuring Safe Zones (Geofencing)β
Safe Zones (Geofences) are virtual perimeters established around key locations like Home, School, or Grandma's House. When the child enters or exits these zones, parents receive immediate push notifications.
How to Create a Safe Zone:β
- Navigate to the Location tab in the Parent App.
- Tap the Safe Zones button.
- Tap Add Safe Zone.
- Configure your Safe Zone:
- Search Address: Enter the street address or search on the map.
- Adjust Perimeter: Drag the slider to set the boundary radius (from
200 metersup to2 kilometers). - Alert Preferences: Toggle notifications for On Entry and/or On Exit.
- Name: Label the zone (e.g., "School").
- Tap Create Zone.

π‘ Pro Tips for Accurate Location Trackingβ
- High-Accuracy GPS: Ensure the child's device has location services set to "High Accuracy" or "Google Location Accuracy" turned on in Android settings.
- Network Connectivity: Location reporting requires a cellular or Wi-Fi data connection. If the child's device goes offline, the Parent App will display the last known location until connection is restored.
- Background Battery Optimizations: Some Android devices (especially Xiaomi/Samsung) kill background services. Ensure optimizations are disabled to prevent tracking drops. See Troubleshooting Background Disconnects.
