App Limits and Blocking

Fami Hero supports four rule types under Screen Time controls.

1) Daily Time Limits (Group-Based)

Open Screen time -> Daily Time Limits.

You can:

  • enable/disable the master App Limits switch
  • create one or more limit groups
  • assign categories and specific apps to each group
  • set limit mode:
    • Every Day (one value)
    • Custom (per-day values)
  • activate/deactivate each group
  • edit or delete existing groups

2) Scheduled Downtime

Open Screen time -> Scheduled Downtime.

You can:

  • turn on Activate Downtime (instant global downtime)
  • create multiple downtime schedules
  • set schedule mode (every day or custom days)
  • configure start/end times
  • choose allowed apps for each downtime schedule

3) Always Allowed Apps

Open Screen time -> Always Allowed.

You can:

  • add apps that remain accessible during downtime or after limits are reached
  • remove apps from the always-allowed list

4) Blocked Apps

Open Screen time -> Blocked Apps.

You can:

  • block selected apps entirely
  • unblock apps later from the same screen

How App Time Limit Works

Daily Time Limits are group-based shared pools.

How it works:

  1. You create a group and assign apps/categories to it.
  2. The group gets a daily limit (for example, 60 minutes).
  3. Usage from apps in that group is counted together.
  4. When the group reaches its limit, apps in that group are blocked.
  5. Limits reset at local midnight each day.

Important behavior:

  • If one app is in multiple active groups, the most restrictive result applies. If any group limit is exceeded, the app is blocked.
  • If parent approves extra time from a child request, that extra time is consumed before blocking again.
  • Apps in Always Allowed do not get blocked by App Limits.

Rule Priority (Highest to Lowest)

When multiple rules apply to the same app, Fami Hero checks in this order:

  1. Instant Lock (highest)
  2. Blocked Apps
  3. Always Allowed
  4. App Time Limit
  5. Downtime

Practical examples:

  • If an app is in Blocked Apps and Always Allowed, it is still blocked.
  • If an app is Always Allowed, it is not blocked by App Time Limit or Downtime.
  • If App Time Limit is exceeded and Downtime is also active, App Time Limit reason appears first.
